Let's ask ourselves a few simple questions: Who is running this city? Is it the mayor, the city council, the school board, who? I've come to a conclusion after watching this for 33 years: It's none of these people. The ones who run this city are the owners of businesses that are established here.
Why? Most every business person in this city doesn't just own their own businesses, they own three or four others, sometimes up to seven places.
Have you ever wondered why we can't get new businesses to come to Duluth? It's because the owners of the other businesses don't want the competition. How do they keep them out; do you think money is being exchanged to keep them out of here? If so, who is getting the money?
Why did we not get Cabela's here? They wanted to open a big store down by the bay where there's lots of room and would create more jobs for our city? Oh, I forgot, we have a sporting store already here, don't we?
Last, but not least, we get to vote on the school board plan for the new schools. I just heard on the news that the head of the school board says if we vote on it, it means nothing; they will just consider adjusting some provisions. Our vote means nothing.
