Nostalgic thoughts can stir during the year of Minnesota's Sesquicentennial. Though many people seek ancestry, including royalty heritage, the vast majority of us are from the lineage of common folk. The fact is that government policies, not of the people, oppressed many of our ancestors.

Minnesota held promise of freedoms primarily reserved for royalty. The educational opportunities for children to read and write motivated many of our ancestors to abandon their homeland in search of a dream. But the once-cherished children's education has become uncivilized. The philosophy that children below the age of consensual sex ought to be able to express their sexuality is oppressive.

It's difficult to determine what motives are behind the sex education curriculum. The consensus of education officials to continue with an oppressive sex education curriculum is outrageous. Failing statistics are ignored. For public education to ignore sex education's destructive effects on children reveals lack of empathy.

One of the Minnesota Department Health's goals for prevention of sexual violence is to seek action by local and state public policy entities.

Appropriately, comprehensive sex education is proposed state legislation. Since 2005, hope remains for implementation of the bill. Further legislation needs to be proposed to bring public education in compliance with the legal age of consensual sex.

History reminds us that our ancestors sought the philosophy epitomized in the Declaration of Independence.

"The separate and equal station to which the laws of nature and of nature's god entitle them" is declared for the entire world to see. Exploiting and abusing children below the age of consensual sex is not tolerated in the United States.

As descendants of victims of oppression, we defend ourselves against the methods of oppression.

We remain in America knowing our constitutional rights denounce oppression and look to our state representatives for support.
