Child pornography charges were dropped in Douglas County Circuit Court last month against a Superior man already serving a 10-year federal prison sentence for possession of child pornography.
Timothy D. Urbanski, 49, pleaded guilty on Sept. 14 in Wisconsin's Western District Court to possession of child pornography. In November, District Judge Barbara Crabb gave him the maximum sentence of 10 years. She based her decision on the fact that Urbanski downloaded hundreds of pictures of prepubescent children with some images depicting sadistic and violent acts performed on them, and shared them by e-mail with others. A search warrant conducted at Urbanski's North 14th Street residence in July 2011 recovered several computers and electronic storage devices that contained 1,153 images of identified victims of child pornography, according to Assistant U.S. Attorney Elizabeth Altman.
Urbanski said the pornographic images police found among his belongings were part of his campaign to rid the Internet of child pornography by downloading, printing and shredding them.
As the case wound its way through federal court, the Douglas County case against Urbanski, alleging 10 counts of possession of child pornography, remained open. Last month, all 10 counts were dismissed.
