I am proud to support one of my former students, Emily Larson, for one of the At Large Duluth City Council seats. As the director of field education in the Masters of Social Work Program at the University of Minnesota Duluth, I am always pleased when one of our graduates chooses to assume a leadership role in our community, and this is certainly the case with Larson.

After working 10 years in the nonprofit sector, Larson returned to get her master's degree in social work and now owns a consulting practice focused on work force and economic development. She clearly recognizes the importance of economic development for our city but also knows that in order to attract and retain talented folks we need to support our parks, libraries, streets and public services.

Larson and her family have made Duluth their home, as have many of us who were not born here. This is our chosen city.

Please join me in voting for Emily Larson on Nov. 8.
