Lake Superior rose in July, but not as much as it usually does, according to the International Lake Superior Board of Control.

The big lake rose an inch in July compared to the average two-inch increase. Rainfall in the eastern and northern portions of the lake's watershed was below normal.

The lake sits 13 inches below the long-term average for Aug. 1 and six inches below the level at this time one year ago.

Lakes Michigan and Huron rose two inches in July and are 12 inches below their long-term average and six inches below the Aug. 1, 2009, level.
