The level of Lake Superior fell by two inches in December, less than the usual three inches, and now sits just three inches below the long-term average for Jan. 1.
The International Lake Superior Board of Control today reported that the level of the lake is up six inches from this time last year. The big lake generally rises from April to September and then drops during winter months.
Lakes Michigan and Huron dropped six inches in December, compared to the usual two, and now is seven inches above the level at this time last year and six inches below the long-term average.
