Lake Superior rose a little more than usual in August but remains below last year’s near-record water levels, the International Lake Superior Board of Control reported recently.
Lake Superior is now 6 inches above average but is 4 inches below the Sept. 1 level of 2017. The lake rose 0.8 inches in August compared to the month’s usual 0.4 inches. The lake usually begins its seasonal decline by the end of September, dropping through April before rising in the spring and summer.
Lakes Michigan-Huron are now 17 inches above normal and about at the same level as Sept. 1 2017.
