The Labor Temple Association, comprised of unions that own the building at 20th Avenue East and London Road, will name its Hall A meeting room off the South Street entrance the "Senator Paul Wellstone Hall."
"Senator Paul Wellstone was a true friend to all working families," said Larry Sillanpa, treasurer of the association. "This is our small way to pay our respects to Paul and to make sure that his work, memory and legacy live."
Sillanpa says a portrait of Wellstone will be hung in the meeting room with a plaque beneath it that lists the labor issues that Wellstone was a leader on in the U.S. Senate before his untimely death Oct. 25, 2002.
The Duluth AFL-CIO Central Labor Body's more than 60 affiliates comprise most of the shareholders in the Labor Temple Association. The Central Body will hold a remembrance celebration for Wellstone in Wellstone Hall following its Thursday, Nov. 14 regular monthly meeting at approximately 8:30 p.m.
"We are inviting the general public to attend if they'd like, as well," said Central Body President Alan Netland. "It will be an informal affair to allow people to share their feelings and memories of Paul, who was a tireless worker for Minnesotans yet made himself so accessible to his constituents."
