Touting himself as a fifth-generation Iron Ranger, Virginia resident Jason Metsa on Tuesday said he will seek the DFL bid to replace retiring State Rep. Tim Rukavina in the Minnesota House.
Metsa, 31, said he will seek the endorsement for the District 6B seat, formerly the 5A seat, which covers Virginia and much of the eastern Iron Range.
"Integrity, hard work, honesty and family values are what built the Range. They are values I will take with me to St. Paul to represent this region,'' Metsa said in a release announcing his bid.
Metsa currently works as field coordinator for the North East Area Labor Council representing the seven counties of Northeastern Minnesota. He has been active in his community, serving on the Range Mental Health Center Advisory Board.
Metsa will vie for the DFL spot with Laurie Janatopoulos of rural Eveleth.

The two will seek the DFL endorsement at a convention on Saturday in Hibbing, a joint meeting of House District 6A and 6B DFLers. They also could go on to a party primary in August.
Rukavina announced Friday he would not seek re-election after 26 years in office.
