On Friday, Nov. 15, the Kuroinukan celebrated its 15th anniversary in business.
The Kuroinukan is a Danzan Ryu Jujutsu martial art school that was started by Ward Melenich, 4th degree black belt, in 1987.
It has moved to eight different locations around Duluth in that time until it found the "perfect" dojo (school) at 16BD North First Ave. West in downtown Duluth. The business has three black belt instructors: Ward Melenich, Sohn Wehseler (3rd degree black belt) and Craig LaTour (2nd degree black belt).
Various classes are offered for all skill levels and physical abilities every week night. The Kuroinukan shares the workout space with the Duluth Judo Club, which will be celebrating its 40th anniversary next summer.
