Shawn Krizaj has been selected to serve as second-in-command of the Duluth Fire Department.
The 18-year-veteran's appointment to the deputy chief position was announced Monday by Fire Chief Dennis Edwards, who took the helm of the department in May.
Krizaj most recently served as the department's technical services director, overseeing emergency management and hazardous materials response efforts. He previously held the rank of firefighter, equipment operator and fire captain.
In his new role, Krizaj will share administrative, fiscal and emergency response efforts with Edwards.
His promotion rounds out the new chief's leadership team. Former Deputy Chief Erik Simonson has returned to an assistant chief position, serving alongside Clint Reff and Chris Martinson.
