The Iron Range city of Kinney will receive $250,000 in federal funds to replace a water supply line to increase water pressure to houses along the line.
A little more than a quarter of the total -- $68,000 -- is in the form of a loan; the remainder is a grant. Iron Range Resources gave the city a $125,000 grant to help with the project, while the city is spending $30,000 of its own money on the project.
The federal grant was one of five to Minnesota communities announced Monday by USDA Rural Development. The other communities are Pipestone, Holdingford, Lafayette and Morton. Pipestone received the largest award -- a $4.532 million loan to build a wastewater stabilization pond.
