A kayaker drowned in Long Lake in Glen Township on Sunday, according to a news release from the Aitkin County Sheriff's Office.

Paul A. Mott, 62, of Bloomington, Minnesota, died of drowning after "extensive lifesaving efforts were made," according to preliminary findings from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner.

On Sunday, Aitkin County Dispatch received a call that an unresponsive man was facedown in the water. He was reportedly in a kayak that was tipped on its side, the release read.

A father and son pulled Mott to shore and started CPR, which a North Ambulance crew took over upon arrival.

The father and son told deputies they saw Mott earlier fishing from his kayak, during which he was wearing a life vest.
