I'm writing in regard to Herb Bergson. There has been so much negative press about Mayor Bergson, but I'd like to let you know about the man I have come to know and respect and care about immensely.
I belong to an East Hillside/Central Hillside watch group. We've tried to get the police and politicians involved to help with crime, homelessness, slum landlords and such. We've been doing this for the past 16 years, starting out in the apartment of my mother, Lorelei Louks, and now at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church on Sixth Avenue East. We work with CHUM and others now.
In all these years, we have asked the mayors to attend our meetings. Only Mayor Bergson has come. He has listened to us and has done something about our complaints.
When I hear about all the put-downs of Bergson, I only know the great and caring man who took the time out of his busy schedule to attend our meetings and return our calls. Not only did he attend our meetings, but he took action on our complaints.
We will sorely miss this caring man when he leaves office.
