Jonny Lang, a Fargo native, released his first album, "Smokin,'" at age 13, under the name Kid Jonny Lang & The Big Bang. The following year, Lang released his debut solo album, "Lie to Me." Lang's voice and guitar have been celebrated since those prodigy days, but at age 27 the music's a lot bigger; his range is impressive, stretching way beyond blues.
His latest album, the Grammy-winning 2006 "Turn Around," takes pop-funk turns in cuts such as "Bump in the Road," his agile voice growling and soaring. Lang's mix of funk and pop, and his dazzling guitar, evokes Prince. He is a longtime road warrior who puts on a good, authentic show.
