An Iron River man accused of killing his parents in December has been found competent for the case to proceed.

Bayfield County Circuit Court Judge John Anderson ruled that 44-year-old Jimmy Crain understands the proceedings against him and is competent to participate in his own defense at a status conference Tuesday.

Charges against Crain include two counts of first-degree intentional homicide, which carries a life sentence if he is convicted. Authorities say Crain killed his parents, 79-year-old Jim Crain and 76-year-old Eunice "Crickett" Crain, who were found stabbed to death in their apartment on Dec. 7.

Crain is being held at the Bayfield County Jail on $1 million bail.

Preliminary hearings in the case have been scheduled for April 25 and May 12.
