A Virginia man died in a car accident while fleeing police Saturday along Highway 53, police said.
Jacob T. Stellmach, 19, was fleeing a Virginia city police officer in a 1991 Ford pickup truck, according to a news release from the Minnesota State Patrol. He went off the road and hit a tree just after midnight.
The state patrol estimated speeds reached up to 80 mph when Stellmach's truck left the road 8 miles north of Virginia. Authorities released little information Saturday evening, citing an ongoing investigation.
A friend of Stellmach left a note of condolence on his online facebook page Saturday.
"Jake, you were too young to go, and this should have never happened. Friends and Family are in my prayers," Jessica Mousseau wrote. She declined further comment when contacted by the News Tribune.

Stellmach, who attended Virginia High School, is survived by his mother, father and a brother.
