A 51-year-old Iowa man died in a snowmobile accident near Clam Lake Sunday.
Michael Dave Garner of Lenox, Iowa, was west bound near Clam Lake, in the Namakagon Township, with five other snowmobilers. At a sharp curve that followed a straightaway, Garner's snowmobile continued straight and collided with a tree. Garner was wearing a helmet, according the Bayfield County Sheriff's Office.
The Ashland County Sheriff's Office received a call of a snowmobile accident, which lead to multiple agencies being called in because it was initially unknown if the accident was in Bayfield, Ashland or Sawyer County. However, it was known to be close to the junction of all three counties. Clam Lake First Responders, Glidden Ambulance, Great Divide Ambulance, Namakagon Fire Department and Wisconsin DNR responded to the accident.
Authorities said speed could have been a factor in the collision, and blood alcohol tests are pending.
