In like a lion: Photography in the days after the March 1, 2007, blizzard

The blizzard that ushered in this month was an awesome display of Mother Nature's raw power, but the camera fun didn't end when the storm did.

All day Saturday, residents across the region were shoveling out driveways, sidewalks ... roofs.

While there wasn't any neighborhood with a lack of photo ops (see Lakeside house in "The Northland Digs Out"), the hammered Minnesota Point was definitely king.

The most popular house for photographers (see "Poor, Poor Park Point") still wasn't cleared out Monday, when this photo was taken. (The icicle-laden Our Lady of Mercy photo in the "The Northland Digs Out" gallery was also taken Monday.)

However, the highlight for a number of shutterbugs actually came a few miles up the shore, at an "ice garden" (see attached photo and the accompanying "Discover Duluth" photo gallery) that had formed off Scenic Highway 61 near the Lakewood Water Treatment Plant.
