Monday, May 9, work will begin to repave 18 miles of the northbound lanes of I-35 between Hinckley and Willow River. Minnesota Department of Transportation (Mn/DOT) officials expect that this project should be completed by mid-July of this year.
Project engineer Dave Mavec said drivers should expect significant travel delays, single lane travel and reduced speeds.
Mavec said, however, that because of the start of the Minnesota fishing season on Saturday, May 14, 2005, Mn/DOT will suspend work on this project over that weekend from Friday through Sunday, while northbound I-35 is temporarily returned to full traffic service in order to accommodate the heavy northbound traffic expected.
The project is valued at nearly $1 million and will be constructed by Bauerly Brothers Corporation from Sauk Rapids.
To encourage safety in highway work zones this summer, the Minnesota State Patrol will be strictly enforcing the Minnesota Double Fines Law which mandates that fines levied against traffic law violators in road construction zones be automatically doubled.
