About 890 Lake Country Power customers remained without electrical power this morning after a series of powerful storms on Thursday swept through the region.

The outages are concentrated near Side Lake, Ely, the Eagle's Nest chain of lakes, and Grand Rapids, according to Tami Zaun, a Lake Country Power spokeswoman. A few outages also remained near Kettle River.

Strong wind gusts combined with wet soils weakened root structures. Trees and power lines went down from high winds.

At one point on Thursday, about 11,000 Lake Country Power customers were without power.

Electrical power within the areas that remained out on Friday should be restored by early evening, said Zaun.

In addition to Lake Country Power line crews, workers from Lake States Tree Service and Lake States Construction, two of the electrical distributor's subsidiaries, are working to help clear debris and restore power.
