Temperatures dropped to as low as 41 below zero and wind chills were as low as 53 below in the Northland this morning, as yet another blast of arctic air settled into the region.
The lowest temperature reported by the National Weather Service in Duluth was 41 below, at a Minnesota Department of Transportation weather sensor near Ash Lake in northern St. Louis County. Crane Lake and Kabetogama reported 36 below zero.
International Falls fell to 33 below this morning, setting a record for the date. The previous record of 30 below was set in 1919 and 1962. Embarrass, Togo and Orr also recorded lows of 33 below.
This morning's low at the Duluth airport was 21 below zero.
The Grand Marais airport, located several miles inland from Lake Superior, reported a wind chill of 53 below zero early this morning. The air temperature there dropped to 27 below.

Other low wind chills included 49 below at Hibbing; 48 below at Grand Rapids; 46 below at International Falls, Hermantown and Chisholm; 45 below at Ely and 43 below at the Duluth airport and Grand Portage.
After highs struggle to reach zero today, lows tonight should be around 20 below zero.
