It's time for one of Duluth's most popular holiday events, the 15th Annual Lighting Celebration sponsored by the Budgeteer News, the city of Duluth and KBJR News 6.
Duluthians are encouraged to decorate the outsides of their homes and sign up in either the Masters Division, for those who have won first, second or third place within the last three years; the Residential Division, for all other home entries; or in the new Commercial Division, for all businesses wishing to enter.
Minnesota Power will once again donate $5 to the Salvation Army for every lighting entry.
People not interested in entering the contest can still request that a $5 donation be made by Minnesota Power to the Salvation Army by checking the appropriate box on the entry form.
Official entry forms can be found in upcoming Budgeteer News mid-week and weekend editions. Entries can also be picked up at the Salvation Army, KBJR News 6 and the Budgeteer News office. Entrants may also register online through the Budgeteer's Web site at http://www.duluth.com .
The deadline for entries is Wednesday, Dec. 8, and judging will take place from Wednesday, Dec. 6, through Tuesday, Dec. 12. This year's panel of judges includes Budgeteer News writer Sandi Dahl and News 6 meteorologist George Kessler.
All prizes are donated by local businesses and will be presented, along with certificates from the city of Duluth, by Mayor Gary Doty at a ceremony on Friday, Dec. 15. A listing of the winners and honorable mentions will be published in the Dec. 17 issue of the Budgeteer News.
