The Grand Rapids Area Library will host a program on the safety of Itasca County's bridges next week.

The "Bridges of Itasca County" begins at 7 p.m. on August 28 in the library's large meeting room.

Itasca County Highway Engineer Dave Christy and Grand Rapids City Engineer Tom Pagel will discuss the safety of the bridges, how bridge inspections are conducted, the reliability of inspections, who decides whether a bridge should be re-paired or replaced, and whether they think federal and state governments are providing the funding needed to keep roads and bridges safe.

Itasca County has 134 bridges and large culverts spanning 10 feet or more.
