A Hibbing man was sentenced to five years in prison on Monday for growing marijuana plants in Itasca County.
Matthew X. Lindgren, 50, also was sentenced by U.S. District Judge James Rosenbaum in Minneapolis to four years of supervised release on one count of manufacturing and possession with intent to distribute 100 or more marijuana plants.
Lindgren was indicted on Feb. 6, 2008. On Sept. 8, he pleaded guilty to growing about 278 marijuana plants in seven plots in the Chippewa National Forest near Gunn Lake. He admitted taking the harvested plants to a Hibbing residence to store them.
The case was the result of an investigation by the U.S. Forest Service and the Itasca County Sheriff's Office.
