A 40-year-old Hibbing man was killed, and a passenger was seriously injured as a result of an all-terrain vehicle accident early Sunday morning.
Cory Mayer was pronounced dead on the scene, when his ATV was discovered at about 6 a.m. in the 12700 block of Guello Road, located in the Silica area south of Hibbing. Lianna Cimperman, 30, also of Hibbing was transported to the Hibbing Hospital with serious injuries. She was a passenger aboard Mayer's ATV.
The two left at about 3 a.m. Sunday for a ride. When they still hadn't returned at 6 a.m., a friend went to look for them and came upon the accident scene, where Mayer's ATV left the roadway. Alcohol is suspected to have played a contributing role in the crash, according to a report from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office continues to investigate the incident.
