A 40-year-old Hibbing man was killed, and a passenger was seriously injured, as a result of an all-terrain vehicle accident early Sunday.
Cory Mayer was pronounced dead at the scene when his ATV was discovered about 6 a.m. in the 12700 block of Guello Road, in the Silica area south of Hibbing. Lianna Cimperman, 30, also of Hibbing, was transported to the Hibbing Hospital with serious injuries. She was a passenger aboard Mayer's ATV.
The two left about 3 a.m. Sunday for a ride. When they still hadn't returned at 6 a.m., a friend went to look for them and came upon the accident scene, where Mayer's ATV left the roadway. Alcohol is suspected to have played a contributing role in the crash, according to a report from the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office.
The sheriff's office continues to investigate the incident.
