Runoff from heavy rain washed out a culvert along County Highway 24 near Buyck in northern St. Louis County, officials reported Sunday.

The washout is about 4 1/2 miles south of Buyck, on the highway that links the rural community with the Lake Vermilion area. The highway is closed until the culvert is repaired; officials expect the work should be complete by midday Monday.

That part of the county received 2 to 3 inches of rain on Saturday, the National Weather Service reported.
