Heavy rain over the weekend and into Monday has closed some roads in St. Louis County and sent water over others.
Rainfall amounts over Saturday, Sunday and Monday included nearly 6 inches near Hibbing, 5.1 inches at Big Fork, 4.8 inches at Crane lake, 3.7 inches at Buyck, 2.3 inches at Wrenshall and 1.9 inches at Grand Rapids.
The National Weather Service in Duluth reported 2.2 inches over Saturday, Sunday and thorough Monday afternoon. Duluth is nearly 4 inches above normal for precipitation this year.
Roads that were closed as of Monday afternoon are:
-- County Road 642 (Hayes Road) in Great Scott Township between County State Aid Highway (CSAH) 5 and McSweeney Road.
-- County Road 748 (Jones Road) in Great Scott Township between CSAH 25 and County Road 456.
-- County Road 540 (East Olson Road) about two miles east of U.S. Highway 53.
-- County Road 937 (Wood Road) about one mile north of East Olson Road.
County officials hope to have these roads open Tuesday.
Four other roads are now posted with warning signs due to water on the roadway but are passable:
-- CSAH 95 (Bodas Road) in Fayal Township between Miller Trunk Highway and the Wellstone Memorial Site.
-- County Road 453 (White Road) in Cherry Township approximately a half mile south of Allavus Road.
-- County Road 592 (McSweeney Road) in Cherry Township approximately a half mile south of CSAH 92.
-- CSAH 137 (Spirit Lake Road) in Great Scott Township at the intersection of Bonner Road.
County Road 24, which had been closed yesterday due to a washed-out culvert, has since been repaired and is now open again.
