The Duluth Transit Authority is upgrading to new, heated shelters at seven downtown bus stops.
Where they'll be
* Two stops on the 500 block of West Superior Street.
* Two stops on the 400 block of West Superior Street.
* The north side stop on the first block of West Superior Street (in front of Visit Duluth).

* The south side stop on the first block of East Superior Street (in front of the new building construction next to Electric Fetus).
* In front of the Holiday Center.
What it's costing
The project will cost $646,000, with 80 percent of that money coming from the federal government and 20 percent from the DTA.
Street and electrical construction costs are $520,000 and the seven heated shelters will cost $126,000 in total.
Other changes
* The sidewalks in front of the Holiday Center and the DTA Transit Center across the street are being expanded to help ease congestion at the busy bus stops.
* The DTA will remove the shelter on Second Avenue East because the new station on Third Avenue East made it obsolete, and it added a new stop in front of US Bank on the 100 block of West Superior Street.

Gimme shelter
The stops at the Radisson Hotel and the Duluth Public Library don't have shelters because the old units were removed and then there was a production problem with the new units, general manager Dennis Jensen said. The new shelters should begin arriving late next week.
