No more "Bluer than Blue." The University of Minnesota Duluth's Chamber Orchestra fundraiser will now feature Michael Monroe rather than longtime guitar player Michael Johnson, who is unable to perform because of illness.
The event is at 3 p.m. Sunday in Weber Music Hall at UMD. Tickets are $25, and proceeds go to the UMD string scholarship
program. Go to www.tickets.umn.edu . Those who had purchased tickets for the sole purpose of seeing Johnson can get a refund, said marketing director Sherise Morgan.
Monroe is an acoustic musician who sings and plays original jazz and folk-style music on guitar and bamboo and glass flutes. He lives on the North Shore in a solar-powered log cabin, according to his Web site, and his work was featured in the documentary "Chased by the Light" about photographer Jim Brandenburg. Monroe's "Soaring on Mended Wings" received a regional Emmy award for a TV documentary in 2004.
