Guest theologian comes to Duluth

Two congregations are hosting prominent biblical scholar Dr. David Rhoads, professor of New Testament emeritus from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, for free public speaking events Sept. 26-28.

Two congregations are hosting prominent biblical scholar Dr. David Rhoads, professor of New Testament emeritus from the Lutheran School of Theology in Chicago, for free public speaking events Sept. 26-28.

"Performing the Gospel" will take place 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 26 at First Lutheran Church, 1100 E. Superior St. Rhoads will perform a portion of the Gospel of Mark and lead a discussion on the significance of the spoken word for the church today.

Rhoads is also a passionate environmentalist. "Earthkeeping 2.0: Taking Creation Care in the Church to the Next Level" will take place 8:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 27, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 219 N. 6th Ave. in the sanctuary.

On Sunday at Gloria Dei, Rhoads will give an overview of the Gospel of Mark, his particular area of study, at the adult forum 8:45 a.m. He will then preach the morning worship at 10 a.m. All events are free and open to the public.
