Ashley Grimm sent out a release Monday indicating her intention to run for the 5th District Duluth City Council seat now held by Jay Fosle. She is expected to announce her candidacy at 11 a.m. Tuesday during an appearance at Duluth City Center West, 5830 Grand Ave.

Grimm manages children’s and youth programs at the Damiano Center and has served on the Duluth Human Rights commission since 2012. She grew up in Barnum but now is a Denfeld resident.

She issued a statement, saying: “I care about our communities in the western part of Duluth. I’m proud to be making my future here. City Council needs to start seeing western Duluth, and I will fight for us to have the say we deserve.”

Peter Passi covers city government for the Duluth News Tribune. He joined the paper in April 2000, initially as a business reporter but has worked a number of beats through the years.
