The Greater Downtown Council held its annual dinner Wednesday night at Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.
Speakers during the dinner focused on the opening of the NorShor Theatre next week and the upcoming construction on Superior Street over the next three years. The full room of nearly 650 people were reminded to step up and support local businesses, especially downtown during the reconstruction of Superior Street, slated to begin this year.
Mayor Emily Larson said she understands that business owners along Superior Street are curious, excited and nervous about the reconstruction, but the city of Duluth will be there to help support those businesses affected.
"Downtown is the heart of our city," she said. "We are fully co-invested in your success."
The keynote speaker was author and community development consultant Peter Kageyama. He talked about loving your city - and getting others to love your city as well - by making it fun and beautiful.
