A Grantsburg High School senior was killed in a single-vehicle accident reported early Thursday.

Shortly before 1 a.m., the Burnett County Sheriff's Office responded to a

single-vehicle crash on North Williams Road in the Town of Wood River, about two miles east of Grantsburg, Wis. There they found a 2001 Pontiac Grand Am that had left the road and overturned. The driver, Tessa M. Leffelman, 18, of Grantsburg was pronounced dead at the scene.

Leffelman, who was alone in the car, appeared to have been traveling south on North Williams Road when the accident happened. The cause of this crash remains under investigation, but preliminary investigation indicates that excessive speed may have been a contributing factor, according to the Sheriff's Office.
