The Grand Rapids Police Department is warning area businesses and organizations of a scam related to sports and activity calendars the Grand Rapids school district puts out.

According to police, a company called “Sports Media” has been sending fraudulent invoices to businesses that have advertisements on the sports and activity calendars that the school district puts out in hopes that the business will pay them. Area businesses have reported receiving invoices and letters demanding payment for these fraudulent activities posters, a news release said.

The Grand Rapids school district has partnered with Steve Lynch, who sells the advertisement space on the authentic calendars and all invoices for this are marked with “TH Signs / #318 Poster Fund” and are sent in district envelopes.

Anyone with questions about the legitimacy of the activities calendars are asked to contract the district’s activities office at 218-327-5765.
