The Grand Portage National Monument Heritage Center will be closed temporarily beginning next Monday for the installation of new carpeting. The center - which houses the museum, classroom, and bookstore - will be closed for up to three weeks.
The monument grounds and trails will remain open, with park brochures available at the front entrance. During the closure the closest public restrooms will be a quarter-mile away at the Grand Portage Trading Post on Mile Creek Road.
The 10-year-old facility sees about 90,000 visitors each year.
Park staff ask that visitors call ahead for the latest operating hours during the upgrade, which should be completed by mid-April. The park can be reached at (218) 475-0123, via Facebook or online at nps.gov/grpo .
