A Grand Lake Township home is a total loss after a fire razed the structure Tuesday afternoon.

The call came in at about 3 p.m. when a neighboring resident noticed flames as he was driving by, according to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office. The home, located at 5555 Bergstrom Junction Road, north of Twig, was engulfed in flames when deputies arrived.

According to a news release, no one was home at the time, however two dogs were not located and are believed to have perished in the fire.

The incident remains under investigation by the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office and Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office. Assisting fire departments at the scene included Grand Lake, Industrial Township, Solway, Air National Guard, Canosia, Hermantown, Fredenberg and Rice Lake.
