Sophomore Ben Grams has transferred to St. Scholastica from Seton Hall University.
Grams, the Duluth News Tribune High School Player of the Year in 2002, posted a 3.46 ERA in 26 innings for Seton Hall as a freshman. The 6-foot-5 right-handed pitcher will work out of the Saints bullpen initially.
Three All-Area local prep stars will join the Saints as well. Infielder Nick Lee (Carlton), outfielder Josh Valentine (Denfeld), and all-state catcher Mike Lewis (Esko) are part of an incoming class that includes five all-state selections. Lee is a three-time all-area selection, Valentine set the Denfeld single-season hit record, and Lewis was a Lions All-Star selection.
All-Metro third-baseman Pete Winberg (Woodbury), All-State pitcher/outfielder Blake Eller (Brainerd), outfielder Pat Shopoff (Thunder Bay), infielder Steve Kraushaar (Park-Cottage Grove), infielder Adam Scherff (St. Francis), and pitcher Nate Hill (Buffalo) will begin practice with the Saints this week.
St. Scholastica's annual pro-alumni game is Saturday, Sept. 25, at Wade Stadium.
