A section of Lakewalk will close Tuesday through Saturday as crews study the area for the next phase of reconstruction.

In a news release Monday, the city of Duluth said the Lakewalk will be closed from the bottom of the pedestrian ramp below Gitchi-ode’ Akiing Park (formerly known as Lake Place Park) to Water Street beginning Tuesday. Work is expected to be completed by Saturday.

During the closure, project contractors will create "a soil profile and analysis within the planned area to begin the project's design phase," the city said.

The Lakewalk has weathered five severe storms since 2017 and a yearslong project to armor the area to withstand more from Lake Superior is underway.

The city will host a public meeting on the project Oct. 7.
