A dozen people are now seeking appointment to the Duluth City Council with Terese Tomanek and Flip Arkulary joining the field of applicants this week and Barbara Carr withdrawing.

Just one individual will be selected by the City Council to take the place of Barb Russ, who recently resigned from her at large seat due to health concerns related to a cancer diagnosis.

The other would-be appointees are: Ashlie Castaldo, Chris Adatte, Mark Hakes, Robert J. Stenberg, Jennifer Vossen Julsrud, Zak Radzak, David W. Montgomery, Julie Zaruba Fountaine, Heather Ann Muster and Dave Zbaracki.

The City Clerk's Office will continue to accept applications up until 4:30 p.m. June 1.

The Duluth City Council is expected to interview applicants Thursday, June 4, and winnow the field down to three finalists. Those three finalists will undergo a second round of interviews, with the council expected to make its pick Monday, June 8.

The appointee will serve out the remainder of Russ' term, which ends in 2022.
