Construction will start Tuesday on a new World War I memorial at Duluth’s Memorial Park on Grand Avenue, the city announced Friday.
“Over time, many of the plaques have been damaged, destroyed or are now missing,” a news release said, adding that multiple planning processes have called for a new memorial altogether. A memorial to the first World War has existed at the park for more than 90 years.
Work on the site landscaping, concrete slab and sidewalk and flag pole will take place until early July. The park will remain open during construction.
