Local politicians, consumers and union activists will take part in a nationwide action today to protest Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co.

Team Tire Inc., 308 W. Central Entrance in Duluth, will be the site of a demonstration -- one of more than 100 locations nationwide --beginning at 10 a.m.

The effort is to inform people about Goodyear's proposal to cut jobs and scale back health-care coverage for company employees and retirees. About 15,000 Goodyear workers have been on strike since Oct. 5.

"We have nothing against this local business," said Kevin Fahey, an organizer for the Steelworkers. "But we view what Goodyear is doing as another corporate attack on American manufacturing." He added that demonstrators are not calling for people to cease dealings with the business.
