Gloria Dei warming center open every night in March

Duluth News Tribune News Brief

During the entire month of March, CHUM's Gloria Dei warming center will be open every night regardless of temperatures.

Until March, the warming center could only open on nights when temperatures were 10 degrees or lower, but a $114,000 grant from the state's winter homeless initiative has changed that for the month of March.

The Gloria Dei warming center is located at 219 N. Sixth Ave. E. in Duluth and is typically open from 8 p.m.-8 a.m. On Thursdays the center doesn't open until 9 p.m. due to choir practice, and on Sunday the center closes at 7 a.m.

The Harmony Club warming center, located in the former Lincoln Park Elementary School with an entrance off 25th Ave W between Fourth and Fifth Streets, will only be open when the temperatures are 10 degrees or lower.

Both warming centers are not open Saturday, Feb. 29.

The CHUM Drop-In Center, 125 N. First Ave W., is also open every night regardless of temperature.

In Superior, the Ruth House warming center, 632 Grand Ave., is open from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. when the temperature is 40 degrees or colder.

The Duluth Transit Authority offers free rides for anyone specifying that they are going to a warming center.
