Crews cut off and then restored gas service Monday to 240 homes in Gary-New Duluth.
The gas outage was from House Street to Reese Street and 101st Avenue West to 109th Avenue West, city officials said.
"It was an operational issue," said Eric Shaffer, the city's chief engineer of utilities. "We were performing maintenance on part of the system and had to shut it off."
Service was out from about 2-6 p.m.
