Northland weather information, photos and history

Most of the Northland still has not seen a hard freeze yet, so the National Weather Service is continuing to issue frost advisories and freeze warnings when temperatures are poised to tumble – as they may tonight. Perhaps this will be the night for the first widespread freeze of the season.

The Weather Service has issued a freeze warning for the early morning hours of Sunday for the Iron Range and interior portions of the Minnesota Arrowhead, along with much of Northwestern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula. Counties included are: northern and central St. Louis, northern Lake, northern Cook, Bayfield, Ashland, Iron, Sawyer, Washburn, Price, Gogebic and Ontonagon.

Temperatures in the warning area may drop into the upper 20s or low 30s overnight, causing a killing frost for plants.

A frost advisory is in effect for the Twin Ports and North Shore, where temperatures may fall into the low to mid 30s and cause areas of frost, though probably not enough to kill most plants. Counties in the advisory are southern St. Louis, Carlton, Douglas, southern Lake, southern Cook, Pine and Burnett.
