Duluth lawyer Fred Friedman has been reappointed Northeastern Minnesota's chief public defender for a seventh four-year term.

Friedman has served as the 6th Judicial District's chief public defender since 1986 and is the longest-serving chief defender in Minnesota.

In addition to being an attorney and career public defender, Friedman is an adjunct associate professor at the University of Minnesota Duluth, where he has taught since 1975. He holds a joint appointment in the Department of Sociology and the School of Medicine.
