Freezing rain made afternoon travel difficult in the Duluth area Monday.
The State Patrol and other law enforcement agencies handled several accidents on Interstate 35 south of Duluth and along Midway and Lavaque roads.
"There's freezing rain out there," a State Patrol dispatcher said shortly after 3:30 p.m.
The National Weather Service extended a freezing rain advisory until 3 a.m. for the Duluth area. The problem was expected to be worse away from Lake Superior. Temperatures were predicted to rise above freezing overnight, however, and conditions should improve by this morning.
Rain is expected much of today, with a possible thunderstorm and a chance of light snow tonight. Only the Canadian border area was expected to see any accumulating snow today.
