The U.S. Senate's newest member will be in Duluth on Sunday evening for what will be his first public event in town since being sworn into office.

Al Franken, D-Minn., is scheduled to address a national conference of progressive activists. Franken will join Arizona State Rep. Kyrsten Sinema as keynote speakers at the kickoff of the Commonweal Institute's 2009 Progressive Roundtable.

The speech is set for 7 p.m. in the Morris Room at downtown Duluth's Greysolon Plaza, 321 E. Superior St. It is free and open to the public, but seating is limited and pre-registration is strongly encouraged. Call (218) 726-5430.

The roundtable, which includes more than 70 activists from around the country, continues to Wednesday.
