The man accused of abducting a 13-year-old Duluth girl and taking her across state lines was arraigned today in U.S. District Court in St. Paul.

Todd Richard Franik appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Leo Brisbois. The indictment issued on Wednesday alleges that on Aug. 2, Franik abducted the girl and took her from Minnesota to Wisconsin with the intent of engaging in criminal sexual activity.

According to court documents, Franik kidnapped and sexually fondled the girl and his plan was to hold her for ransom, but he abandoned his plan.

Franik entered a not guilty plea Thursday. A jury trial has been scheduled for Dec. 12 before U.S. District Judge Donovan Frank.
